Blues from Chicago has always been popular and has been central to the music program at the Notodden Blues Festival.
It was the Blues from Chicago that was the main inspiration for British bands and musicians such as John Mayall, Fleetwood Mac, Eric Clapton and the Rolling Stones when they started their careers making Blues music popular in Europe. The Notodden Blues Festival has had Chicago Blues artists like Otis Rush, Jimmy Rogers, Junior Wells, Koko Taylor, Bo Diddley and Buddy Guy on its poster. This time the festival wished to put together a Chicago band with prestige musicians of the genre. The band will be led by harmonica player/singer Charlie Musselwhite and guitarist/singer Bob Margolin. Musselwhite learned his Blues at the toughest Chicago clubs in the early 1960s. He debuted with the album "Stand Back! Here Comes Charlie Musselwhite’s Southside Band "in 1966, and took the Blues out to a large audience.
Bob Margolin was the guitarist for the Muddy Waters's band for years. You can see him as Muddy Waters's guitarist in the film The Last Waltz. Bassist Bob Stroget has played with everyone and with his 86 years he is one of the Blues’s 'Grand Old Men'. Billy Flynn is one of Chicago Blues most sort after guitarists and drummer Kenny "Beedy Eyes" Smith is the son of Blues legend Willie "Big Eyes" Smith. All bear the legacy of Chicago on to a new generation. Kingfish at the age of 17 years is in full speed towards an international career. He has played at clubs in Clarksdale from the time he was a little boy. Now he is about to be discovered in earnest. Kingfish is a unique and special phenomenon. At his young age he has already been on stage with everyone from Buddy Guy, Bob Margolin and Rick Derringer, and has also performed for Michelle Obama at the White House in Washington DC. "It is the hallmark of Notodden Blues Festival to assemble special projects and last year's success Supersonic Blues Machine is a perfect example. The Musselwhite & Margolin All Star Chicago Showcase is such a unique experience. This band is guaranteed to be another great experience at Notodden, "said festival organizers.
The band features Charlie Musselwhite, Bob Margolin, Bob Stroger, Billy Flynn, Christone "Kingfish" Ingram & Kenny "Beaey Eyes" Smith
