NOTODDEN BLUES FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES:
LITTLE STEVEN & THE DISCIPLES OF SOUL
We are thrilled to announce that Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, musician, songwriter, producer, actor, director, activist, radio DJ and one of the founding members of Bruce Springsteen’s iconic E Street Band: Steven Van Zandt is returning to Notodden Blues Festival on August 3 for a headlining performance with his rousing Rock and Roll/Rhythm & Blues band, Little Steven & The Disciples of Soul.
Little Steven and The Disciples of Soul are embarking on an international tour, beginning with release concerts for his new album “Summer of Sorcery” in Beverly Hills, California on May 4th and Asbury Park, New Jersey on May 8th . The “Summer of Sorcery Tour” will take them on the road through the United States, Canada, and Europe. We’re pleased to announce that Steven’s European home of Notodden, Norway is now included in the tour.
‘The venue was on fire when Little Steven and his 14 Disciples performed ‘Soulfire’ in front a packed house, " as the newspaper Varden described the concert at the Notodden Blues Festival in 2017, "a party that Notodden has never seen before. "
Since then, Steven’s creativity has flourished, and the band is better than ever. Now, Little Steven & The Disciples of Soul have announced the release of their new long-awaited album, "Summer of Sorcery".
"Summer of Sorcery" marks the legendary rocker's first album of new material in two decades, a creative renaissance that apparently was sparked by Little Stevens' first visit to the Notodden Blues Festival in 2015.
Says Steven, "When I first came here in 2015, I didn't know what to expect. But, this is the most beautiful place for a festival I've ever seen. Notodden Blues Festival is one of the best festivals in the world."
Steven was inspired by a creative Blues environment in the Telemark mountains of Norway, one that he has learned to love. The next year, Steven Van Zandt returned to Notodden in 2016 and created Little Stevens Blues School here in the “Bluestown” of Notodden.
When Little Steven returned to Notodden in 2017, he had reunited his legendary band, The Disciples of Soul, consisting of 14 hand-picked musicians selected from the top shelf in the American music community. After once again visiting the Little Stevens Blues School during the festival week of 2018 and helped launch the Blues study at the University of Notodden, he now returns once again in 2019 for a high profile performance with Little Steven & The Disciples of Soul. The audience in Notodden can prepare for a powerful set made up of Steven’s own classics and songs from the new album.
The captivating first single, "Superfly Terraplane", a guitar and horn driven soul-rocker, makes good promises and high expectations for both the upcoming album and for the subsequent world tour.
